Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Saturday informed that the Lok Sabha Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi would be touring sensitive zones in the state including Churachandpur and Jiribam during a one day visit on July 8.
Speaking to the media at the MPCC Bhavan in Imphal, MPCC president K Meghachandra stated that the Opposition leader would arrive in Imphal on a chartered flight and leave for the new conflict front in Jiribam.
“He would then return to Imphal and head for Churachandpur. He would return to Imphal by road and stop by the relief camps opened in Moirang,” he said.
He further added that Rahul Gandhi would meet the Manipur governor after finsihing his tour and leave for Delhi.
Meanwhile, CLP leader O Ibobi stated that Rahul Gandhi’s visit showed his concern as the opposition leader.
“The conflict has crossed one year but the leader is taking out time to listen to the concerns of the people who are languishing in relief camps. This visit reaffirms his objective of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,” he said.
He stated that the sweeping 18th Lok Sabha election results showed Manipur’s rejection of the BJP government.
“The BJP government is still not resolving the issue. The prime minister’s response in the Rajya Sabha was the culmination of the mounting pressure on his unreasonable silence,” he said.
On the other hand, AICC Manipur in-charge Girish Chodankar maintained that Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur was to usher the message of peace and unity which the BJP failed to deliver.
“BJP is solely focused on garnering political advantage but the Congress puts the ideals of humanity and love above everything else,” he said.
As such, the MPCC appealed to the people of Manipur to welcome the opposition leader with warm embrace and cooperate in his tours.
