The completion of developmental works, including as many as construction of 69 bridges under the Act East policy are being delayed due to the present political instability in Myanmar, Union Minister of State RK Ranjan said in Imphal East on Monday.
"Although the Indian Government wants to urgently complete the developmental work, the construction of as many as 69 bridges under Act East policy remained delayed due to the political instability in Myanmar," Ranjan told mediapersons at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Imphal East on Monday.
Both the Indian and the Myanmar governments are trying to reach a political settlement as there are no issues beyond the Myanmar border, he said.

The minister further said that most of the people settled in the India-Myanmar border are of the same ethnic community.
To identify and prevent illegal influx of immigrants, the state government is trying to introduce identity cards for the people inhabiting the border areas as well as working on the introduction of ‘border huts’, he mentioned.
The issue concerning the influx of illegal immigrants could be solved with the implementation of these plans at the border area, he said.
Ranjan appealed to the people living in the border area to cooperate with the government in taking up these measures.
The union minister said as a part of the observation of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be interacting with the beneficiaries of 16 different government schemes for nine different departments on Tuesday.
The beneficiaries will be given the opportunity to give feedback to the prime minister regarding the various government welfare schemes during the interaction, he added.
Ranjan said that the main objectives of the programme is to find out how much the government’s various schemes are providing benefits to the beneficiaries.
