The Committee of Forward Clubs, Thongju and Apunba Meira Paibi, Thongju burned photographs of all the Manipur MLAs, state BJP president, Governor, and Central leaders, decrying their inability to bring normalcy in Manipur.
The photographs included all the MLAs of Manipur, including Chief Minister N Biren Singh; state BJP president A Sharda Devi; Governor Anusuiya Uikey; Prime Minister Narendra Modi; union defence minister Rajnath Singh.
People of Manipur have been suffering for the last 66 days due to the present communal clash.
As a part of the peace initiatives programme, central leaders have been summoning the ministers and MLAs of Manipur separately. However, till date the number of death reports, bullet and bomb blast injuries have been increasing day by day.
Huge number of protesters gathered in front of the Manipur University main gate, Canchipur and performed the last wreath of the leaders. Before the pictures of the leaders were burned, the protesters threw sandals and shoes at the photographs of the leaders instead of garland and flowers.
After that, the protesters marched with a four-charter of demands that included incapable 50 MLAs of Manipur should resign immediately, incapable Prime Minister of India and Union Home Minister should resign immediately, MPs of Manipur should resign, Civil Society Organisations should remain silent if not able to take necessary steps.
The rally continued towards Singjamei along the Indo-Myanmar international highway. As the state police blocked the protesters, the rally took a U-turn from Singjamei parking and ended at the initial point.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, one Robert told the media that the Committee of Forward Clubs, Thongju and Apunba Meira Paibi, Thongju resolved on July 1 and put an ultimatum that the representatives including central leaders should make a stance within seven days in order to bring an amicable solution for the ongoing clash in order to bring normalcy.
As the leaders failed to fulfil the demand the joint bodies demonstrated the protest. Adding that if all the MLAs and MPs of Manipur tendered their resignation then how can the central leaders remain as a mute spectator.
If the representatives of Manipur are going to be remained as a mute spectator or helpless then there is no need for such MLAs who only know how to pass huge amounts of money in the name of developmental works in Manipur Legislative Assembly.
