United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Thursday commemorated the October Mass Rally 2018, ‘To let Manipur live and grow together’, at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal.
Remembering October Mass Rally, 2018 is observed to mark the rally’s significance, drew community leaders and supporters who reaffirmed their commitment to preserving Manipur’s unity.
During the commemoration event, UCM president YK Dhiren highlighted the importance of unity among the people of Manipur to counter divisive tactics that have emerged in the state.
Dhiren stressed on the rally that symbolised the poople’s collective resolve to stand united, adding that efforts to fragment state through a divide and rule policy would not succeed as long as the people remained united.
Dhiren said that we need collective vigilance against foreign influences, particularly the influx of alleged Chin-Kuki narco terrorists group from Myanmar. Such groups posed a threat to Manipur’s territorial and social stability and the state needs a strong response to protect the state’s interest, he said.
He urged the people of Manipur to rise above individual differences and work toward a common goal, asserting that unity is essential to maintaining Manipur’s strength and identity in the face of external pressures.
It should be mentioned that on this day in 2018 in Imphal, the people of Manipur had cautioned the government of India of serious consequences if the integrity of the state was disturbed while bringing a settlement to the NSCN-IM issues.
The event was attended by UCM consultative members, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, Khomdram Ratan, advocate L Jadu and Tourangbam Birjit.
