The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday clarified that not issuing application form for party ticket to former MLA, Kakching Constituency, Yengkhom Surchandra Singh is not related to his resignation from the party.
During a press conference at Congress Bhawan, Khumanthem Devabrata, VP of the party said that the committee had already unanimously resolved not to issue ticket application form to those former Congress MLAs who had defected from the Congress party by violating the 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The committee consider such activity as going against party discipline. In this view, MPCC decided not to give ticket application form to former Kakching MLA, Yengkhom Surchandra Singh; former Lamlai MLA, Kshetrimayum Biren; former Lilong MLA, Md Nasir; former Wangkhei MLA, Okram Henry and former Kumbi MLA, Sanasam Bira, Devanrata added.
He also clarified that Yengkhom Surchandra is not in party list from before. Just taking the reference of primary membership of the party, resignation was submitted. As such his submission of resignation letter is not relatable with non-issuance of application form of party ticket for ensuing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, the MPCC VP said.
Retaliating the criticism made by defected Congress MLAs or expelled from party, Devabrata who is also spokesperson of MPCC said, whosoever left the Party after winning election from the party itself usually compared Congress party as “shinking ship”. However Congress Party viewed them as ‘non-visionary and ignorant politicians’, who doesn’t know the strength of the party.
He also condemned the statement made by Chief Minister N Biren Singh in connection with recent issue on PM‘s visit to Punjab. “A committee consisting of five members was constituted headed by ex-justice Indu Malhotra to probe the Prime Minister Security breach case. Amid this situation, CM N Biren Singh urging the stand of Congress Party by alleging the incident as violation of constitution is highly provocative,” he stated.
People of the nation along with the Congress party are highly curious why the prime minister was so afraid to travel in his own country, he questioned, while stating that the prime minister is the head of defence sector and working under his command. As such, there is no point of being afraid from threat. “It is highly suspected that Punjab incident was a ploy of the BJP. With the rise of the Congress party in many states of India, BJP is in fear of being defeated. Therefore it had started adopting various strategies,” he claimed.
