Nobel Peace Laureates join Tribunal for Peace in Manipur

International Tribunal for Peace in Manipur (ITPM) was established on Saturday with joint efforts from concerned citizens and organisations from Manipur and around the world to bring about peace.

A new tribunal named International Tribunal for Peace in Manipur (ITPM) was established on Saturday with joint efforts from concerned citizens and organisations from Manipur and around the world to bring about peace.

A release from Binalakshmi Nepram of Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network and Northeast India Women Initiative for Peace said that the tribunal aimed to chart a pathway for much-needed peace in Manipur. 

Nobel Peace Laureates namely Shirin Ebadi and Jody Williams, Ambassador Steffen Kongstad, Kassahun Checole, Reynaldo Antonio Morales Cardenas, Fred Lubang, Mitzi Austero, International Peace Bureau as well as members of Northeast India Women Initiative for Peace and Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network took part in the meet, it mentioned.

Binalakshmi Nepram said the tribunal’s efforts are meant to bring peace, healing, reconciliation and solace to the 3.3 million people of Manipur and also assured to work with everyone concerned to ensure that peace returns to the state.

Discussions on the root causes of the conflict, the impact it caused and conflict-resolution processes involving third-party non-partisan groups trusted by all sides of conflicts past and present were held during the meet, it added.
