Nine Manipur BJP MLAs against CM Biren Singh

Manipur's ruling coalition MLAs meet Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman

At least nine Meitei BJP MLAs are up in arms against the present government led by N Biren Singh regarding the handling of the present crisis and failure of law and order in Manipur. 

The Manipur BJP MLAs on Monday submitted a five-point memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, including the demand for a proper and rational deployment of CPMF (Central Para Military Forces), along with the state police and others in view of the present unrest and violence in Manipur.

The memorandum also requested the Prime Minister that the demand for a separate administration by any community should not be considered at any cost and the integrity of the state should not be disturbed.

The nine MLAs sought an appointment of Prime Minister of India on June 15 and an acknowledgement was received on the same day. But, as the PM is leaving on June 20 for an international tour, in the larger interest of Manipur, the delegation submitted the memorandum on Monday, it added.

The delegation who submitted the memorandum included Karam Shyam Singh-MLA Langthabal AC; Th Radheshyam Singh-MLA Heirok AC; Nishikant Singh Sapam- MLA Keishamthong AC; Kh Raghumani- MLA Uripok AC; P Brojen- MLA Wangjing Tentha AC; T Robindro- MLA Thanga AC; S Rajen-MLA Lamsang AC; S Kebi Devi- MLA Naoriya Pakhanglakpa; and Y Radheshyam- MLA Hiyanglam AC.

The memorandum also highlighted the complete breakdown of law and order in the state, loss of faith by the public in the present state government and restoration of the Rule of Law so that the trust and confidence of the general public is restored.

It also demanded strict enforcement of ground rules of Kuki SoO groups, strong action to check the infiltration and involvement of CDF (Chin-Kuki Defence Force) in the present violence as there is strong apprehension by the general public. The issue may be treated as a National Security, it added.

The MLAs also demanded a meeting of Kuki MLAs and Meetei/Meitei MLAs to enable them to find a solution to the various issues facing the state. by interacting and exchanging ideas as they have not met due to the prevailing situation.

Stating that more than 100 innocent lives have been lost and valuable properties have been damaged due to the ongoing violence despite many steps taken up to curtail the violence happening in the state of Manipur, the memorandum also requested for Prime Minister immediate intervention on the matter.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Manipur MLAs and ministers led by the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly met Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, in Delhi on Monday and apprised him of the ground situation of the state.

A total of 23 BJP and NPP legislators put forward some points before the Union Defence Minister for his consideration to contain violence in the state of Manipur.

The legislators also demanded the Centre to bring a peaceful environment to the state by putting an end to the ongoing violence and maintaining territorial integrity in the state at all costs.

They demanded stringent action against insurgent groups for violating the ground rules of the state.

Additionally, the legislators also asked for the withdrawal of SoO and to bring them back to their designated camps.

Moreover, they asked for the Centre to provide clarification on allegations put forward by a few militant groups in the state against a few central BJP leaders for giving support during the 2017 election.

The delegates included minister Th Basantakumar, minister Govindas, minister Sapam Ranjan, MLA Noorul Hassan, MLA L Rameshor, MLA K Robindro, MLA RK Imo, MLA Ashab Uddin, MLA Th Shyamkumar.

Later in the evening, the delegation met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
