NESO team lands in Imphal, visits two valley relief camps

NESO chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya stated the team will hold talks with various CSOs and people of both Meitei and Kuki communities after properly assessing the ground report.

With the objective to assess the ground reality and work out measures to aid in the restoration of peace and normalcy, an 18-member team of the Northeast Students Organisation (NESO,) an umbrella organisation of all student bodies in Northeast, India, landed in Imphal on Tuesday.

During their two-day visit, the NESO team will be visiting four relief camps- two each in Imphal and Churachandpur. The 18-member NESO team includes representatives of All Assam Students Union (AASU), Naga Students Federation (NSF), Khasi Students Union (KSU), Tripura Students Federation (TSF), Garo Students Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU).

Interacting with media at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, NESO chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya stated the team will hold talks with various CSOs and people of both Meitei and Kuki communities after properly assessing the ground report.

“The aim of our visit is to create a neutral platform where members from both communities can come together eventually and air out their differences and hopefully strive collectively in restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur,” he said.

He highlighted that the team would be meeting with members of the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) during the visit to Churachandpur.

He further pointed out that the main objective of the visit was to create a feasible ground for peace in Manipur. 

After landing in Imphal, the team visited relief camps in Moirang, Bishnupur district and Akampat, Imphal East. During their visit, the team interacted with inmates of both relief camps and closely assessed the grievances of displaced students staying in both camps. They will be finishing off their Manipur visit by going to relief camps in Churachandpur today.
