The Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) on Sunday expressed strong disapproval of Prime Minister Modi's handling of the recent 78-day unrest in Manipur, stating that his focus on a singular incident while overlooking other gruesome crimes is highly condemnable.
The party has urged the Modi to address the alarming situation in the region, highlighting the alleged burning alive of a Meitei lady on May 28 by "Kuki militants".
The incident in question occurred in Serou, Kakching district where S Bino, the wife of late freedom fighter S Churachand Singh, was reportedly burnt alive inside her home during an attack by Kuki militants on the village.
S Churachand Singh was honoured by former President APJ Abdul Kalam and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for his contributions to India's freedom struggle.
Speaking to the media at the MPP office in Imphal, a representative of the party, S Ibomcha, expressed concern that the focus on a single incident, such as the naked parade, undermines the gravity of other crimes occurring during the unrest.
Ibomcha stated, "We want to know the PM's reaction to that (burning alive) unfortunate incident, which is considered one of the most horrifying crimes".
The MPP accused PM Modi of tarnishing the image of Manipur by not addressing the broader picture of the ongoing violence and unrest in the state.

They argued that prime minister's selective response raises questions about his suitability for the role of the country's leader.
The party also criticised Chief Minister Biren for not taking sufficient action in response to the situation, stressing that maintaining law and order is a state matter as announced by the PM, and he should step up to address the crisis.

The MPP representative called upon Biren to show courage and take responsibility for the situation, encouraging him to initiate talks to find a resolution and strengthen state forces to restore peace.
Additionally, the MPP also pressed the state government to call an emergency Assembly sitting to end the crisis by taking a collective decision. "Stop worrying about seats. Think of Manipur Integrity and peace," Ibomcha added.
