Many valley-based MLAs, including Speaker Th Satyabrata, ministers Y Khemchand and Th Bishwajit Singh, have pledged before the ‘Youths of Manipur’ not to compromise but to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur amid the ongoing crisis.
As a part of their movement, the ‘Youths of Manipur’ stormed the residence of Speaker Th Satyabrata; minister Khemchand and MLA Sapam Nishikanta on Sunday.
On Saturday, they also stormed the residences of MLA Lourembam Rameshwor Meeitei and minister Th Biswajit Singh located at Kiyamgei Santipur and Ningomthong respectively during which both the MLAs pledged in the name of ‘Ibudhou Pakhangba’ (Supreme God of Meitei community) on Manipur.
They pledged ‘no compromise on Manipur integrity’, ‘to press authority concerned to convene an immediate assembly session’, ‘to bring up the issue of Manipur on the Manipur Legislative Assembly floor in order to discuss in the upcoming parliamentary session’, ‘to lead the people of Manipur’, and ‘I will resign from my MLAship if Manipur breaks’.
The youths on Saturday failed to meet MLA L Rameshwor in person as he was out of station. However, he took the pledge through phone in front of the youths and even sent a signed pledge via e-mail.
Minister Bishwajit met the youths personally and took the same pledge.
A special session of Parliament has been scheduled on September 18 and will be continuing for the next five days.
On Sunday, the youths stormed the residence of Speaker Th Satyabrata located at Bhramapur Bheigyabati Leikai but found that he was out of station for medical reasons. However, Th ongbi Ranjana alias Memi Devi, wife of Th Satyabrata called him following which he took the same pledge.
Similarly, Khemchand was also out of station, but he assured the youths through phone that he will meet the youths on Tuesday.
The group of youths then marched to the residence of Sapam Nishikant located at Sega Road Thouda Babhok Leikai where the MLA met them in front of his residence and took the pledge besides signing it too.
It is said that the youths started taking the steps to bring normalcy and peace in Manipur as violence has been continuing in the state since May 3.
