The Tumuyon Khullen village authority council along with the Tumuyon Khullen Youth Club reportedly destroyed a poppy plantation worth Rs 45-50 crore approximately over the last three-four days in their jurisdiction in support of Chief Minister N Biren Singh's 'War on Drugs' initiative.
The village authority council of Tumuyon Khullen and the village youth club had reportedly destroyed poppy fields, measuring around 10 hectares within their jurisdiction for the sixth time over the past three-four consecutive days.
Secretary of the village authority council RK Livingson said, “We have been destroying poppy plantations continuously for the past three-four consecutive days within the area of around 10 hectares. The total estimated worth of the destroyed poppies will be around Rs 45-50 crores in the national market, he said.
This is the sixth time the village authority council along with the village youth club destroyed poppy plantations in their jurisdiction, he added.
“Some tenants and outsiders are forcefully continuing the poppy cultivation even after repeated warnings and this time, we have served notice once again to them not to continue such illegal plantation within our jurisdiction,” he said.
The village secretary also said that they will continue to support and cooperate with the 'War on Drugs' mission under the initiative of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and urge all to make Manipur free from drugs to save future generations.
In a representation reporting the destruction of the poppy plantation at Tumuyon Khullen, signed by chairman of Tumuyon Khullen Village Authority A Maraiba, and its secretary, RK Livingson stated that under the initiative of the village authority and youth club, stern action has been taken against the illegal plantation of poppy within the jurisdiction of Tumuyon Khullen.
The village authority in its capacity had organised a sensitisation mission against the illegal plantation of poppy in collaboration with the village youth club and destroyed the poppy plantation in the village land area, it continued.
The representation was handed over by the village chairman to the state chief minister through the DC, Kangpokpi.
DC Kangpokpi Kengoo Zuringla expressed her happiness to witness the activities of Tumuyon Khullen village authority and the youths who are actively involved in the destruction of the poppy plantation.
The civil servant also lauded the village youths and encouraged other villages to come up and take such steps so that the youths are safe from the use of narcotics and drugs.
