The Southern Tangkhul Students’ Union on Saturday warned that the roads from Yaingangpokpi Bazar to Chadong, Kangkum to Wanglee, Nongdam road and Sikibung to Louphong would be closed indefinitely following government’s failure to repair them under Pradhan mantri gram sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal, the union’s president Yarchuiso Kashung stated that the union had apprised the chief minister and RD&PR minister on separate occasions to swiftly finish reparation of the following roads.
“We submitted a memorandum on November 2 and 6, 2023 which appealed to the authorities to finish the reparation by December 25, 2023 but nothing materialised,” he said.
However, he pointed out that the said roads had been marked as completed in project information signboard erected along the said roads.
He highlighted that several roads had been untouched and several others were only paved with gravel.
As such, the union stated that representatives of the union would fly to Delhi to apprise the Union minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
The road from Yaingangpokpi Bazar to Chadong (10 Km) are included in MN09330 PMGSY-II package, Kangkum to Wanglee (25 km) in MN09250 package, Nongdam road in MN09158 package and Sikibung to Loupung in MN09174 package.
