Manipur: Security forces recover arms, ammunition during search operations

Security forces recovered various arms and ammunition during search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts on Thursday.

According to the latest statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, security forces recovered one SGM carbine, one M20 pistol, two 9mm Pistols, one Bore Belt Action Rifle, nine HE-36 Hand Grenades, one 81mm Mortar Shell, two Green 80MK (WP), one Tear Gas Grenade, seven tear Smoke Shells, one Stun Shell, thirty-five live ammunition rounds, three .303 blank cartridges, three cartridge signal 16mm, one Baofeng radio set with charger and 10,000 Burmese notes from Tekcham Maning Ching, Thoubal District.

Police also seized two .32 pistols with one magazine, one 12-bore Single barrel gun, three HE-36 Hand grenades, six wood piercing shells, fifteen blank cartridges, three detonators, one 2” Para Illuminating Bomb, five live ammunition rounds, three arming rings, three Smoke grenades, four WP Green No .80 MK1 and three anti -riot shells from Nungaipokpi Village, Imphal East District, it stated.

It mentioned that NAB, Manipur Police conducted an awareness programme against drugs at Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur, Imphal West on Thursday, attended by around 500 students, teachers and students.

The statement further said that the situation in the state was under control. It maintained that movement of 120 and 76 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

While, a total of 105 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 168 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it added.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialling rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
