As a part of the security measures taken up for the ensuing Manipur assembly election 2022, a combined team of 15 Assam Rifles, 16 Assam Rifles along with Imphal West district police commando arrested 4 cadres of two different proscribed outfits and seized arms and ammunition from different locations on Thursday.
The arrested persons are namely Sanasam Shyamsal Meitei alias Nanao, 30, son of S Sanatomba Meitei of Hiyanthang Maning Leikai; RK Solomon alias Amon Singh, 47, son of RK Thambousana Singh of Thangmeiband Lourung purel Leikai; Waikhom Nganglentomba Meitei alias Gogo, 47, son of late W Thambalngou Meitei of Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai and Mangsatabam Romesh Meitei alias Tonjao, 18, son of late M Tomba Meitei of Luwangshangbam Awang Leikai, Imphal East district.
Police reported that Shyamsal was arrested from Khagempalli Ngakrabam bridge at about 8.30 pm; Solomon and Nganglentomba were arrested from Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai, Imphal West at around 10 pm of the same day.
Solomon disclosed that three of them are active cadres of a proscribed underground outfit and working under the command of Major Richard alias Somen of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai of the same outfit who is presently staying in Myanmar.
A Glock pistol along with 23 live rounds was recovered from the possession of Solomon; another Glock pistol along with two magazines and 17 live rounds was recovered from the possession of Nganglentomba.
One SUV (Tata Harrier) black in colour bearing registration number MN1AS 0996 and 3 mobile phones were also seized from their possession, police reported.
The report said Solomon disclosed that in October last year he went to Myanmar to meet his commander, Richard, and was handed over the seized pistols to him and instructed him to use it as and when required.
The arrested persons and seizures have been handed over to Imphal Police station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the same combined team also arrested one Mangsatabam Romesh Meitei, who is an active cadre of proscribed outfit KCP (PWG) from Pangei, Imphal East district on the same day.
One .32 pistol with 3 live rounds along with magazine; 2 Chinese made hand grenades, 1 demand letter duly signed by one self-style, finance chief, Wanglemba Meitei of the same proscribed outfit which is addressed to M/s Brijen Brick Field, Pangei, Imphal East for a sum of Rs 10 lakhs were seized.
The arrested person along with the seizures have been handed over to the concerned police station for further necessary legal action.
