Amid alarming intelligence reports of 900 well-trained militants infiltrating from Burma, the villagers of Lamlai AC in Imphal East, Manipur have committed to defending their communities, citing the government’s alleged failure to protect its citizens.

Political activist Sapamcha Kangleipal on Wednesday visited the villages of Sanasabi, Thamnapokpi, and Yaingangpokpi, all located in the red zone of Lamlai AC and reassured the villagers, who have spent the last one and a half year defending their communities from aggression by Kuki militants.

Despite the growing threat of an attack by Kuki militants, the villagers expressed no fear.

“If we are Indian, India should protect us, but they failed,” said Kangleipal, who engaged directly with the youth of these villages and the determination of the people to continue guarding their land.

“The villagers are not afraid to die defending their villages,” he stated, highlighting the unshaken courage of the local population.

He further emphasised that even the speculation of an attack on September 26 or 28 has not caused fear among the villagers. “They have enough courage to protect their village,” said Kangleipal.
