Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey chaired the Advisory Committee meeting of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Manipur, held at the Conference Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Thursday.
Various agendas were discussed during the meet and recommendations were also made for further steps, stated a release.
During the meeting, attendees condoled the demise of three gurus and former Administrative Officer of the Academy and also observed one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls, it stated. The meeting also discussed and elected L Joychandra Singh, former Director, JNMDA as the vice chairman of the academy, it mentioned.
It approved the formation of the academic and production Unit Sub-Committee of JNMDA as well as discussed the proposal put up for the construction of three storey multipurpose building of the academy, it added.
Speaking at the meeting, the governor acknowledged JNMDA’s role in nurturing the rich culture of Manipur. She urged JNMDA to showcase these rich heritages to other parts of the country and abroad despite confining to the calendar of events chartered to year-to-year basis, it asserted.
She maintained that doing so will facilitate showcasing the rich cultural legacy to the rest of the world, it noted. Governor Uikey also asked the academy to conduct cultural programs in relief camps to help reduce the level of anxiety and stress of the people residing in the camps, the release stated.
Members of the Advisory Committee including JNMDA director, P Bilash Singh and secretary, Sangeet Natak Ackademi, New Delhi, Raju Das were among those present at the meet, it added.
