A day after the Manipur BJP ticket committee meeting was held on Friday in Imphal in the presence of Central party leaders, Chief Minister N Biren Singh is set to finalise the party candidates list to contest the state assembly election 2022 to be held in February-March.
The close-door meeting was attended by 15 members of the ticket committee along with BJP northeast incharge Ajay Jamal, Bhupender Yadav BJP general secretary and incharge of Manipur election, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.
The ticket committee comprise of Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, BJP Manipur president A Sharda Devi, two MPs of the state and Minister Th Bishwajit among others.
While the details of the meeting remain unknown, a reliable source said CM Biren will leave Imphal for New Delhi on Saturday morning to finalise the tickets. BJP state president A Sharda Devi and Minister Th Bishwajit had left Imphal for New Delhi soon after Friday’s meeting.
Ch Bijoy, BJP Manipur spokesperson said the list of BJP candidates to contest the Assembly election may be announced in two or three phases. For the constituencies without any problems the list is expected to be released by January 26, he said.
Many including the opposition have been speculating that the announcement of ticket may trigger a crisis within the party with multiple ticket aspirants in one constituency ranging from four to five. The BJP, however, has been refuting it as baseless speculation.
Interestingly, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is also camping in the state. However, the motive behind the RSS chief’s visit, who arrived in Imphal on Friday, is unclear.
