The Zomi Council (ZC), comprising nine Kuki tribes, on Friday, organised a felicitation cum thanksgiving programme for Chief Minister N Biren Singh at YPA General Headquarters Hall located at Hiangtam Lamka in Churachandpur district.
The Council also presented the chief minister with a mithun as a sign of appreciation for his second term as the chief minister of the state.
The chief minister was accompanied by Minister of Education T. Basanta Singh and Minister of Transport Kashim Vashum. They were joint by MLA of Thanlon AC Mr Vungzagin Valte and MLA of Churachandpur AC Mr LM Khaute as functional presidents, as Guest of Honours by MLA of Henglep AC Mr Letzamang Haokip, MLA of Singngat AC Mr Chinlunthang, Ex MLA Mr Ginsuanhau Zou, Ex UNC president Mr Gaidon Kamei and as chief host by the Chairman of ZC Mr John K Ngaihte.
The Chief Minister thanked the ZC for the programme admitting his admiration for their stand in truth and peace. He also appreciated them for their fight against drugs through their sister organisation by setting up an orphanage home called 'Only Grace' stating that it gives him energy to carry on with the war on drugs.
Biren also stated that Churachandpur is the state’s hope in terms of IAS, IPS, Bankers, NABARD etc. The CM, however, apologized that Churachandpur, with its potentials, had no ministers in his present cabinet and stated that he will be their Minister in charge as it was dear to him and there will be no shortfall for the District.
The CM also talked about the works to be done under the 100 days programme of the government since it was formed, promising that under this 100-days programme the only Medical College in the hills and Amusement Park, etc. will be inaugurated in Churachandpur. He said that due to Covid and instability in the government formation in the last term, there are gaps but that will be improved in his second term as CM and called on the people to thank the PM of India for providing free health care and free rice, apart from others.
The CM admitted that he was sorry for the venue for his felicitation which was changed three times due to his pre-occupation but promised 24 hrs power supply for Chandel, Noney and Churachandpur districts. He also talked about the Rs. 115 crore being sanctioned for Henglep AC of Churachandpur District for road construction. The chief minister and the ministers are for the people of the state and we all must strive to be united so as to bring development, the CM said.
All the MLAs present thanked the CM for his work in the district and to the Zomi Council for the programme where the MLAs spoked about their Assembly constituencies' problems to the CM. The MLAs also hailed CM Biren as the people’s CM who did so much for the welfare of the people of Manipur particularly the poorest of the poor.
On the occasion, the Chairman of Zomi Council welcomed the chief minister, praising him for his past achievement like declaring Zomi Namni, 20th February, as restricted holiday, amalgamation of Thanlon sub division from Pherzawl District to Churachandpur District and creation Addl DC Post for Guite Kual that will to be stationed at Muanlum village. He also requested the CM to make Zomi Namni a state festival while thanking him for accepting the request of the Zomi Council today.
