The Manipur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a complaint on Monday addressing the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur and District Election Officer, Thoubal against the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) for violation of Election Commission of India directives by conducting mass rally at Wangjing Thentha and Khangabok assembly constituency, Thoubal district on Sunday.
State BJP general secretary P Premananda Meitei told media in Imphal on Monday that ECI has scheduled the poll date on Saturday and had directed all political parties that no physical meeting, roadshow, procession, cycle/bike/vehicle rally will be allowed till January 15. However, AICC/MPCC organised a one-day membership enrolment drive with a huge rally on Sunday, violating the ECI guidelines as published by CEO, Manipur.
The rally was held at Wangjing Tentha and Khangabok assembly constituency in the presence of AICC, in-charge, Manipur, Bhakta Charan Das; Loitongbam Tilotama Devi; Anwar Hussain and others along with other MPCC leaders and Block Youth Congress Committee, Premananda said.
He said State BJP also organised different political meetings in presence of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and national BJP president JP Nadda. However, the political meetings were organised before the announcement of the poll date. It is unfortunate that the Congress party organised election related activities and that too, in the presence of a union minister after the scheduled poll. Congress party should be aware that the state has rule of law and should follow the rules of law, he added.
He further said that State BJP strongly condemns the killing of two BJP workers including booth president of polling number 5, Wangoi assembly constituency on Sunday night by some unknown miscreants. There is suspicion that the incident occurred under political conspiracy, he added.
State BJP appealed to the authority concerned to book those miscreants involved in the incident.
The party also strongly condemned the bomb attack at the residence of former state general secretary, Mahila Morcha, BJP on Saturday, Premananda said.
