Manipur: Arms seized, bunkers destroyed

Three bunkers were destroyed by Security Forces at Zero Point area, Kangpokpi district

The Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Saturday stated that search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

A release stated that during the search operations, three bunkers were destroyed by Security Forces at Zero Point area, Kangpokpi district, while one 12-Bore Single Barrel, one 12-Bore Bolt Action Rifle, one SMG with Magazine, one Revolver, two 2-inch Mortar Shell, two 81-Mortar Shell, two 36-HE Hand Grenades, two Chinese Grenade, one IED, two Smoke Grenades, two Smoke Shell, one Motorola Hand Held Set, one 7.62 SLR Magazine and one Assault Rifle Magazine were seized from Waithou foot hill area in Thoubal District.

One local made Single barrel, one Country Made 9 mm Pistol with one magazine, one Country Made 7.65 mm Pistol with One Magazine,  one Broken Pompi, three HE-36 Hand Grenade without detonators, 10 live round ammunition and one Walky-Talky set with battery marked as BAOFENG were also seized from the general area of Ishingthembi to hill area near Kongba Maru, Imphal East District, it mentioned.

On Saturday, Security Forces arrested one individual namely Sathaolen Kilong, 24,  from the general area between Kalapahar and Bongmol Village in connection with extorting of money from truck drivers near Bongmol Village on NH-2, Kangpokpi District, it said.
From his possession, one Synthetic leather purse, Rs 4100, one Mobile Phone were seized, it added.

In another incident on Saturday, Manipur Police arrested three active cadres of proscribed outfit KCP (City Meitei) from Imphal West District, for their extortion activities. They are identified as Akoijam Robinson Singh, 31, Phijam Tomba Singh, 50, Lourembam Sadananda Singh, 18, it stated.

From their possession, one four-wheeler vehicle, it stated.

It mentioned that the movement of 229 and 290 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security
convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it stated.

It further said that a total of 124 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 81 persons in connection with violations in different
districts of the state.

It appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room, it stated.

It further appealed to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately, it said. During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was under control, it added.
