The Police Control Room, Manipur Police stated that a column of Mahar Regiment intercepted and detained 11 armed miscreants dressed in police fatigues on Tuesday around 2.30 am while several arms were seized.
From their possession, three AK rifles (seven magazines and 210 ammunitions), five INSAS (13 magazines and 260 ammunitions), two SLR (nine magazines and 180 ammunitions, and two hand grenades and bullet proof jackets and other items were seized and taken into custody, stated a release.
Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, it mentioned.
During the search operations, one CMG (Carbine) with Mag, four single barrel guns, one grenade launcher (lathode gun), one pistol with mag, two improvised heavy mortars, two magazines, ten tear gas shells from Zalenkot, Churachandpur on Tuesday, it stated.
Two 9mm Pistol, five 9 mm pistol magazines and 500 ammunition from Mantripukhri Bazar, Imphal East District were seized on Monday, it mentioned.
Security Force also arrested one cadre of KCP (Lamyanba Khuman), namely Wangkhem Premjit alias Kamcha Singh, 44 , of Luker Mayai Leikai, Imphal West from Khongjom, Thoubal district and seized one 9 mm Pistol along with three rounds from his possession. He was involved in extorting money from the general public in and around Khongjom, it stated.
On Monday, Security Forces arrested three persons, namely Lunminthang Singsit, 31, Paolenmang Samte, 36, and Seiginlen Kipgen, 30, from the general area of Twichamphai and Motbung Village, Kangpokpi District, it further stated.
From their possession, 0.5 kg of explosives substance (Gun powder) and two suspected explosive ammunition were seized, it mentioned.
Movement of 203 and 279 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
A total of 129 nakas/checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and police detained 122 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
Appeal is made to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room. Further, an appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately, it said. During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was under control, it added.
Arms, ammunition seized
Arms and ammunition were recovered by a combined team led by Inspector Kh Henery Singh, OC-CDO/IE, team of the CDO/IE Unit, under the command of Kh. Herojit Singh, Additional SP(Ops)IE, and the overall supervision of K Meghachandra Singh, SP/IE, during a cordon and search operation conducted in the general area of Mantripukhri Bazar and its surroundings in Imphal East District on Tuesday.
During the search operation, which commenced around 3 pm, security personnel discovered a cache of arms and ammunition concealed in a bush at the western side of the Mantripukhri Bazar Community Hall, near the Auto-rickshaw parking area.
The recovered items are one Beretta 9 mm Pistol marked as “BERETTA U.S.A. CORP. ACKK.,MD.-MADE IN USA, BERRE0R79Z’, one Pietro Beretta 9 mm Pistol marked as “PIETRO BERETTA GARDONE V.T, - MADE IN ITALY, F5659Z’, five magazines for 9 mm pistols, all marked as ‘PB CAL.9 PARA MADE IN ITALY’, each loaded with 15 live rounds, totaling 75 rounds and 425 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
The seized arms and ammunition were handed over to the Heingang Police Station for further necessary legal procedures.
