The Manipur Youth League's (MAYOL) long-march for national regeneration under the banner of ‘Peace, Coexistence and Collective development’ reached Andro on Friday as the long march hit the 10th day mark.
The MAYOL volunteers were greeted by locals at Andro Santhel Nature Park in Imphal East where the first public meeting of the march took place.
Day 10 of the march was kicked off from Yairipok and it passed through Huikap and Uchol in Imphal East before reaching Andro.
The long march kicked off on December 20 from Kangla and will conclude at Maharaj Gambhir Singh Memorial Park at Langthabal on January 9, 2024. The march will cover a total distance of around 600 kms. Retired IAS RK Nimai, socio-political commentator Ch Bijoy among other prominent resource persons were also present at the morning convention in Andro.
Speaking on the occasion, Ch Bijoy pointed out the need for the people to embark on a second long march at Koubru and Thangjing after the first march is completed. “Both these sites are sacred sites of the Meitei community and we must protect and safeguard them at all costs,” he said.
He stated that it was time for the people to fight for Manipur as the authorities were nothing more than silent spectators. He also highlighted the significance of the long march which Mao and his people embarked on and its importance in reshaping China.
Meanwhile, RK Nimai lauded MAYOL volunteers for their efforts to awaken political consciousness among the masses.
From Andro Santhel Nature Park, the MAYOL volunteers marched towards Lamlai where the evening public meeting took place at Lamlai Nongada Kameng Play-ground. The march made their journey on the Andro-Lamlai road in which they passed several locations including Nongdam, Nongpok Kakching among others before reaching Lamlai Nongada.
