Lawyers of Family Court Thoubal on Monday condemned the lack of regular judges, and drew the attention of the authorities concerned and threatened to boycott the Thoubal Court along with various forms of non-violent protests.
In a press meet at the office of Thoubal District Bar Association at Thoubal Court Complex, vice president of the association Khangembam Arunkumar said that a regular judge has not been appointed since the establishment of the Family Court Thoubal in 2017, which has led to difficulties while conducting cases for the family court and other courts.
Mentioning that owing to the lack of a regular judge the lawyers have been facing the brunt for the delay and denial of legal proceedings, he stated that though the association had submitted memorandums to the authorities concerned regarding the issue, no action has been taken up till date.
He said that the Family Court Thoubal is overlooking cases from both Thoubal and Kakching district, and drew the attention of the authorities concerned.
He further accused the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Thoubal of being incompetent while proceeding a case. The authorities have failed to pay heed to the issue despite the complaints of Thoubal District Bar Association, he said. Although a judge should be transferred after each three years’ tenure, the judge of CJM Thoubal has been holding the office for five years, he said.
If the authorities concerned fail to take up the necessary action regarding the issue, Thoubal District Bar Association will boycott Thoubal Court and proceed with various non-violent protests with the help of Manipur Bar Association.
