Kangpokpi IDOP observation calls for collective efforts for the betterment of older persons

The SDC Kangpokpi stressed on the need to work collectively by all sectors, including both the government and private as well as the various civil society organisations, for the betterment of all the elderly population.

The observation of the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) in Kangpokpi called upon all the people of Kangpokpi to form collective efforts for the betterment of older persons.

The event, organized by the District Health Society under the theme, "Resilience of Older Persons in a changing world", was held at Chief Medical Officer Kangpokpi's office.

Sithonliu Pamai, MCS, SDC Kangpokpi graced the occasion as Chief Guest while Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip, Chief Medical Officer Kangpokpi, and Lhingkhoneng Haokip, DAO/DMO Kangpokpi attended as Functional President and Guest of Honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Sithonliu Pamai, SDC Kangpokpi highlighted the need to focus and give awareness on the problems faced by the elderly population and appropriate measures to tackle such problems.

Pamai stressed the need to work collectively by all sectors, including both the government and private as well as the various civil society organisations for the betterment of all the elderly population.

CMO Kangpokpi, Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip said that in a bid to ensure the need that people can grow old with dignity, the International Day of Older Persons aims to elevate consciousness about points that are affecting the aged population, including senescence and elder abuse.

She also said that there is no denying the fact that older people make a huge contribution to society.

Lhingkhoneng Haokip, DAO and DMO Kangpokpi, while stressing the various contributions made by the elderly population in the society, said that whether it is through their guidance, transmitting experience and knowledge, or volunteer work, the contribution made by them can’t be paid back, and therefore they surely deserve a day that celebrates them.

Hence, the International Day of Older Persons not only honours but also respects the contribution of older people to building society, she added.

During the event smartly moderated by M Romapati Chanu, DDM i/c Kangpokpi, Dr A Pfuzia, DNO, NCD Kangpokpi delivered the welcome and keynote address while L Holminlun Khongsai, District NCD Epidemiologist invoked the vote of thanks.

 

A free medical check-up was also held as part of the event.
