The Joint Tribe Students’ Association (JTSA) on Saturday urged authorities concerned to expedite peace process in a response to a news report from Kangpokpi in a local daily wherein tribal ministers were urged not to call for an end to the blockade.
The JTSA stated in a release that it would respond to the news report from Kangpokpi that was published in a local newspaper on May 25, 2023, urging the tribal ministers to refrain from calling for the lifting of the blockade and specifically mentioning Awangbow Newmai, minister of water resources, relief, and disaster management.
It also made an appeal to the general public for the safe and unhindered passage of commuters on the national highway for humanitarian reasons.
The JTSA stated that many commuters have been traveling daily from Tamei to Imphal via Kangpokpi and from Tamenglong to Imphal via Noney. Therefore, the association shall denounce and condemn any form of racking, frisking, or halting of vehicles and their people within its areas and jurisdiction.
The body requests both parties not to harm or harass any Naga citizens to prevent any untoward incident, it added.
The Joint Tribe Students Association also urged the authorities concerned, stakeholders, and all responsible citizens to expedite the peace process so as to restore normalcy in the state at the earliest.
The release stated that the Inpui, Zeme, Liangmai, and Rongmei are peace-loving people residing in the districts of Senapati, Kangpokpi, Tamenglong, Noney, Imphal East, and Imphal West and believe in coexistence among all the communities.
The JTSA is a conglomeration of the All Inpui Students’ Union (AISU), Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur (LNKRM), Rongmei Students’ Organization, Manipur (RNSO), and Zeme Students’ Organization, Manipur (ZSOM).
