Manipur joined the rest of the globe in observing World Nurses Day 2023 with the theme 'Our nurses, our future'.

In the state, JNIMS Nurses Association organised a small event at JNIMS medical superintendent's conference hall on Friday.

Speaking at the occasion, JNIMS nursing superintendent Mutum Jibanlata Devi said an amount Rs 2,000 will be donated to each of patients who sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at JNIMS hospital.

"Altogether 86 patients, including patients from relief camps, have been admitted to JNIMS hospital since the clash erupted; although the amount is little we hope to provide assistance to the families," she said.

She further informed that a drive was being conducted along with JNIMS authority to help patients undergoing treatment at the hospital.

She continued those various wards at the hospital had been clubbed together to reduce manpower as the hospital is facing staff shortages at the moment. The clash has impacted the staff number at the hospital, she added.

"However, all the staff will continue to dispense their service regardless of communal lines," she said.

She further exhorted nurses in Manipur to dispense their service with utmost dedication and sacrifice.

Floral tributes were paid to Florence Nightingale during the observance. The nursing superintendent along with the staff also distributed the cash donation to each of the patients injured in the clash.
