A joint meeting of village chiefs of Saitu AC and PHED Department officials decided to extend cooperation and support for the successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and New Development Bank (NDB) Water Supply Schemes to meet the deadline set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide potable drinking water to every household by the year 2024.
The meeting also decided to work out means to take up Water Supply Schemes in those villages which are not covered by JJM or NDB schemes.
The joint meeting convened by Saitu AC MLA, Haokholet Kipgen, at his official residence at Bapupara, Imphal was attended by more than 227 village chiefs/Khunbus/Khullakpas from the constituency and PHED officials led by Joel Rangnamei, Executive Engineer of PHED, Kangpokpi division, apart from social workers from Saitu AC.
While conveying his gratitude for the massive turnout of village chiefs for the joint meeting, MLA Haokholet Kipgen also sought the opinion and constructive ideas, and suggestions from the village chiefs.
Addressing the gathering, Haokholet Kipgen conscientized the congregation on the importance of environmental conservation and the necessity to protect trees, especially in the catchment areas to prevent the drying up of traditional water sources, which is vital for survival.
The MLA also urged the gathering to fight the menace of deforestation and the cultivation of poppy in their villages and sought the support of the village chiefs on the ongoing War on Drugs campaign widely launched by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
Earlier, Joel Rangnamei, EE PHED Kangpokpi Division apprised the congregation of the status of the implementation of JJM and NDB Schemes while seeking the cooperation of the village chiefs and the general public during the execution of the work.
An interaction was also held where all the doubts of the village chiefs were clarified by the Executive Engineer, PHED Kangpokpi division and the local MLA.
