Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA) representatives called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and requested arrangements for conducting regular classes from Class I to 12 to 28 schools, which are currently being used as relief camps in nine districts of the state.
The team submitted a memorandum to the governor, urging that appropriate arrangements for shifting the internally displaced people (IDPs) from these schools be made so that normal classes can be started in these 28 schools, the Raj Bhavan said in a release.
The memorandum also mentioned the recent kidnapping of two students as a heinous crime and condemned the act, stating that targeting students in these situations should be stopped immediately. The governor assured them that proper arrangements would be made in this regard and asked them to meet the chief secretary and commissioner (Education).
Moreover, representatives of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Manipur Prant, also called on the governor and requested that alternate crop seeds be supplied, stating that paddy cultivation in the state has failed by 30 per cent due to scanty rainfall.
In a memorandum submitted to the governor, they said the government should supply alternate crops in Kharib and Rabi seasons to the farmers to make up for food scarcity in the state. They also requested electric water pumps instead of petrol and diesel pumps for the farmers to fight the water crisis, the Raj Bhavan said.
The governor assured them to extend all possible assistance from her office and further asked them to go to the peripheral areas and talk to farmers where cultivation cannot be taken up due to the unrest and to put up their concerns in the future.
The release stated that women leaders of the Committee on Mass Protest Against Assam Rifles called on the governor and submitted a memorandum through her to the prime minister.
The memorandum demands the removal of the Assam Rifles (AR) from the entire state of Manipur and action against central forces personnel who indulged in excessive atrocities towards Meira Paibis of Manipur.
They demanded the deployment of state forces by imposing uniform laws of the land throughout Manipur, especially in the affected areas such as Moreh, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, etc.
The governor also extended financial assistance and distributed relief materials to the 22 violence-affected ex-servicemen/ESM families on Wednesday.
In a function held at Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal, the Governor handed over a cash amount of Rs 15,000 along with a blanket and a multi-utility box (Jumbo Box) each to the ex-servicemen and their families, the Raj Bhavan said in the release.
The governor said that the violence has affected many ex-servicemen and their families in the state. She said their houses and belongings have been burned, leaving nothing behind, and they have been staying in different relief camps. As the Rajya Sainik Board president, along with the contribution of Board members, this assistance has been extended, and all possible help will be extended further to the affected ex-servicemen, she added.
Lauding the contribution of ex-servicemen for their service to the nation, the governor said it is time to help them at this critical juncture, and the state government has also been informed to provide assistance to the ex-servicemen.
Seven ex-servicemen's families in Churachandpur have been given such assistance by the governor during her visit to Churachandpur on July 29, 2023, the Raj Bhavan said.
Hatred among the communities should be removed to restore the sense of brotherhood so that all can live with peace and brotherhood, she said, adding that the Central and state governments have been trying to restore peace and tranquility and all have to contribute to the efforts to restore normalcy and peace.
The governor consoled the violence-affected ex-servicemen and their families to live in peace by removing fear and anger.
