Government will provide assistance to family of deceased IRB: CM Biren

Opposition MLA Surjakumar Okram raised the calling attention on the reported death of IRB jawan who succumbed to injuries sustained during an incident while on election duty in Gujarat.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh who is also the minister of Home on Friday announced that the state government will take necessary steps to provide proper compensations to the family of IRB personnel who died during election duty in Gujarat.

He informed the House during the ongoing third session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly in response to a calling attention motion raised by Opposition MLA Surjakumar Okram.

Seeking information from the chief minister, the leader of the house, Opposition MLA raised the calling attention on the reported death of IRB jawan who succumbed to injuries sustained during an incident while on election duty in Gujarat.

Recalling the incident, opposition MLA Surjakumar informed the House that two India Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawans namely Th Thoiba and Kh Jitendra Singh were killed and two others jawans namely Chourajit and Roshikanta sustained bullet injury while when a jawan namely S Inaucha Singh allegedly opened fire with his service AK rifle.

He said Thoiba and Jitenda were killed on the spot, and as per regulations of the Election Commission of India (ECI), a sum of Rs 15 lakh was ordered to be delivered as compensation amount to each person. Family members of Thoiba had received the compensation amount while family members of Jitendra are yet to receive the compensation amount, he mentioned. 

Chourajit who had been undergoing treatment since the incident succumbed to his injury at Guwahati on Wednesday, he further said. 

He urged the home minister through the assembly floor to provide necessary benefits to the next of kin of the deceased.

Responding to the calling attention motion, Home Minister N Biren Singh extended his condolences on the demise of the IRB jawans during the line of duty.

He assured the House that necessary compensation will be provided for Chourajit as the government has already started the process for providing the assistance.
