The family of Leishangthem Dhananjoy, residing in Thoubal Leishangthem Bashikhong Leirak, has made an appeal to government authorities to uncover the truth behind the alleged physical assault on Dhananjoy by unidentified assailants on April 22.
In an emotional plea conveyed to the media from Dhananjoy’s residence in Thoubal Leishangthem Ashangbi, his mother and wife, Pashot Devi, spoke out about the distressing ordeal their family has endured.
They disclosed that their neighbor, Leishangthem Ongbi Mammei (Chandrasakhi), wife of Somokanta, is a relative and they have been helping out each other during financial hardships.
According to family members, the sequence of events unfolded on April 21 when Mammei allegedly summoned Dhananjoy around 9.30 pm, promising to return borrowed funds. However, instead of fulfilling this promise, Mammei accused Dhananjoy of attempted rape.
Subsequently, on April 22, Dhananjoy was reportedly forcibly taken away by individuals believed to be sent by Mammei’s family. He was later discovered severely injured and abandoned on Erong Chesaba Bridge, having allegedly endured physical assault.
As a result of the assault, Dhananjoy sustained critical injuries, undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital ICU, where his kidney and liver functions are reportedly in critical condition. The family condemned the incident, asserting Dhananjoy’s innocence and denouncing the false accusations leveled against him.
The family appealed to local clubs, organisations, Meira Paibis, and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and uncover the truth behind the alleged assault. They urged swift action to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the attack on Dhananjoy.
