Early solution of Zeliangrong homeland, Naga political issue sought

The AZSU-AMN appealed to the Government of India to expedite the talk and solve the issue in a pragmatic time frame.

The All Zeliangrong Students Union (AZSU), Assam, Manipur and Nagaland held its 2nd Union Assembly (DIMKI) for the tenure 2022-2025 on December 16 at the Women Welfare Conference Hall, Jalukie Town, Peren District, Nagaland.

The AZSU Assembly focused on early solutions for Zeliangrong homeland and Naga political issues, informed the Information and Publicity Wing of AZSU.

All the federating units of AZSU and many senior leaders attended the meeting which began with a one-minute prayer for the souls of the departed leaders namely (Late) Herahungbe (Abu) Pame and (Late) K Parick, the former General Secretary and Public Relation Secretary of AZSU-AMN, stated a release issued by Information and Publicity Wing of AZSU.

During the union assembly, some vacant posts of the union were filled with the appointment of members for the tenure 2022-2025. Henry Chawang was appointed as Tribunal General while Haingeulungbe Newme and Gugu Heralu were appointed as tribunal members of AZSU. Dinraibou from Tamah village and Sonia Riame from Assam were appointed as Information and Publicity Secretary and Women Secretary respectively, it stated.

“The assembly discussed the Diamond Jubilee of AZSU, Constitution Amendments, On-going political negotiation between ZUF and GoI and Naga Political Groups and GoI etc.
The Assembly resolved to extend fullest cooperation to the on-going political negotiation between the Zeliangrong United Front and the Government of India.

The ZUF and GoI had signed the Cessation of Operation on December 27, 2022 to begin the official dialogue to fulfil the demand of Zeliangrong Homeland.

The AZSU-AMN appeals to the Government of India to expedite the talk and solve the issue in a pragmatic time frame, the statement stated.

Meanwhile, the Assembly also reiterated its stand the ongoing political talk between Government of India and the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) which entered the political negotiation more than two decades ago, it said.

The union resolved to extend its continuous support for peaceful settlement and appeal to the GoI and collective leadership to solve the longest Naga protracted political issue at an earlier possible time.

The statement also wished all the Zeliangrong community in particular and the Christian communities living in different parts of the world “A Very Happy Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year”.
