Cyclone Remal: Manipur government issues general advisory for public to remain alert

Teams of NDRF and SDRF have been kept on alert to deal with any untoward incidents.

The Manipur government has announced a general advisory to the general population in view of the Orange Alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather bulletin dated May 27 for the entire state of Manipur.

In view of the severe Cyclone Remal that is affecting several Northeastern states, including Manipur, the offices of the deputy commissioner and Disaster Management on Tuesday issued a public advisory to remain alert and take the necessary precautions to avoid loss of life and property.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather bulletin dated May 27, had issued an Orange alert for the entire state of Manipur.

Besides officials of the district administration, officials of IFCD and Power department besides medical staff have been advised to remain in respective work stations.

Teams of NDRF and SDRF have been kept on alert to deal with any untoward incidents.

In its advisory, the DC/DDMA of various districts including Imphal West and Imphal East advised the general public to take the following precautions.

It advised the general public to stay informed, keep oneself updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings issued by local, state, and national authorities.

It urged all to ignore rumors, stay calm and not to panic. One should reinforce doors and windows, and secure loose objects while an emergency kit with essential items such as non-perishable foods, water, torch lights, first aid supplies, and medicines for safety and survival should be prepared, it stated.

Children and elderly are advised to stay indoors and should not come out of their houses unless under unavoidable emergencies, it mentioned.  Keep emergency contacts handy, it stated.

One should stay away from flood-prone areas, landslide-prone areas, rivers, and streams, it mentioned, while agriculture and other outdoor activities should be postponed till the weather condition improves.
