Dr Vineet Joshi, chief secretary, Manipur and T Ranjit Singh, commissioner (Home) met Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Monday and apprised her of the prevailing situation in the state and the various initiative taken up by the state government for relief and rehabilitation of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The chief secretary informed that a virtual meeting was held twice with the committee set up by the Supreme Court and soon the expert team will visit the state to look into relief and rehabilitation of the displaced people, the Governor’s Secretariat, Raj Bhavan said in a press release.
Regarding relief materials distribution, CS said that all efforts are put in by the state machinery to ensure all the relief items are received by all the inmates and in some cases, relief materials are being transported through different routes or by helicopter.
The District Commissioners (DCs) are instructed to monitor the price of the essential commodities especially from the private traders by involving local CSOs and civil supply officers concerned, CS asserted, as per the Raj Bhavan.
Regarding the inability of payment of private school fees by some families, CS informed that the state will bear the fees of those displaced students, the release said.
The Governor also asked the CS for identification of those relief camps facing acute shortages of essential supplies and to constitute a monitoring committee to look into such matters, the Raj Bhavan said. She also suggested setting up a helpline number for addressing the grievances and concerns of the inmates directly.
The Governor, while taking stock of the prefabricated houses set up at different places, instructed for completion of the set-ups at the earliest as it will ease some of the problems faced by the IDPs. The Governor further highlighted the importance of providing nutritious foods for the pregnant, lactating mothers and children in relief camps, the Raj Bhavan said.
Highlighting the continuous efforts extended through the Governor’s Secretariat, the Governor said that she will further extend maximum assistance for the IDPs, said the release.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Manipur Narendra Ningom along with 2 others called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Monday and informed that essential items such as mosquito nets, kitchen sets, blankets and hygiene kits have already been received from the Indian Red Cross Society, New Delhi which is to be further distributed to different relief camps in Manipur.
The team also informed the Governor that there are enough stocks of tarpaulin sheets that can be distributed to inmates in relief camps as per requirement, the Raj Bhavan said in the press release.
The Governor advised the team and chalked out a plan for distribution of the relief materials and urged for evenly distribution to all the affected people staying in various relief camps in valley as well as hill districts.
As per the release, the Governor stated that her office will facilitate the transportation of relief materials if need arises. She further informed that she will soon visit the recently inaugurated prefabricated homes in Imphal East for distribution of the said relief items.
MLA of Khundrakpam AC, Thokchom Lokeshwar along with 7 (seven) others also called on the Governor on Monday evening and submitted a memorandum with a proposal for setting up of prefabricated houses in Dolaithabi Bazar for Internally Displaced Persons of Ikou Village, Dolaithabi, Litanpokpi and Sadu Yengkhuman.
The Governor assured possible assistance from her end and handed over 4 (four) rice bags and one oil box to them during their visit. The villagers of Ikou and Litanpokpi expressed their gratitude to the Governor for her continuous help for them, the Raj Bhavan said.
