The Citizens for Justice, Manipur (CFJM) on Sunday voiced concerns regarding recent news reports of three trucks carrying a substantial consignment of arms and ammunition entering Manipur from the China-Myanmar border.
It is alleged that the illegal shipment reached a Kuki militant group, raising fears of potential violence against unarmed civilians using the newly acquired sophisticated weapons.
Speaking to the media, retired judge A Noutuneshwari, who is also the vice-chairperson of CFJM, expressed apprehension about the escalating tensions and urged the President of India to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of all citizens in Manipur.
Former MHRC chairperson and current CFJM chairperson K Mani raised several pertinent questions to the President of India and Central leaders.

He questioned how the trucks managed to cross the border unnoticed despite heightened security measures and demanded to know the responsible parties for this serious lapse.
Mani also sought clarification on whether the recipients of the arms and ammunition were Kuki armed groups under the SoO agreement, and if so, what actions have been taken by the authorities to address the situation and seize the illegal weapons.
Mani further sought information on the current status of the Manipur government under constitutional provisions, efforts to combat "Narco-terrorism" in Manipur and the Northeastern region, and progress made in ensuring compliance with the ground rules by Kuki militants under the SoO agreement.
Highlighting the ongoing violence in Manipur since May 3, Mani stated that it had resulted in more than 130 deaths, numerous injuries, the burning of houses, and over 60,000 displaced persons seeking refuge in relief camps.

The blockage of the NH-2, the state's lifeline, continued closure of schools and colleges, sparsely attended government offices and commercial establishments, and the suspension of internet services have further exacerbated the situation, despite the presence of a significant number of security force personnel, he added.
Amid the persistent violent confrontations, there appears to be a significant lack of clarity regarding the safety and security measures undertaken by the democratically elected state government and the Union government, he said, highlighting the urgent need for effective measures to protect the citizens of Manipur in this war-like situation.
The CFJM also informed the media that a memorandum in this regard had been submitted to President of India Droupadi Murmu and its copy was forwarded to the Prime Minister, the Union home minister, the governor of Manipur and the chief minister.
