Manipur director general of police Rajiv Singh on Friday urged the people and representatives of civil bodies of Manipur to cooperate with security forces so that normalcy could be restored in Manipur as earlier.
He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the wreath laying ceremony of late Tourangbam Rishikumar Singh of 6th Manipur Rifles battalion at Manipur Police Memorial pillar which is located at 1st Manipur Rifles battalion campus, Old Lambulane, Imphal West.
Tourangbam Rishikumar Singh, 43, son of late T Madhuchandra from Wangjing Lamding Mamang Leikai deployed at Senjam Chirang, Imphal West was shot on his head by a sniper on Thursday evening. He was shot by Kuki militants in the line of duty while trying to evacuate the villagers to a safer place from the attack of Kuki militants. One village defense volunteer also sustained a minor bullet injury on his ear.
Rishikumar after getting treatment at Raj Medicity, succumbed to his injury at the hospital at around 8 pm on Thursday.
DGP Rajiv Kumar said it is unfortunate that security personnel have died during the present clash. The department is trying to take care of the family members of the deceased state security personnel.
He said the state police department is trying to bring peace in both hills and valleys and appealed to the people across the state to cooperate with the security forces so that peace could be restored back in Manipur at the earliest.
The security forces of the state and the Central forces are trying hard to prevent the loss of lives and the number of casualties has been decreasing gradually, he added.
Responding to the media regarding the snatching of arms and ammunition from security forces, Rajiv said the police department will take up stringent action against the incident. Snatching of arms and ammunition is against the law, and the department has started a probe into the recent incidents which occurred at 2nd IRB stationed at Narenseina in Bishnupur district.
He further appealed to the people to cooperate with state and central forces to restore normalcy in Manipur.
As a part of the ceremony, garlands and floral tributes were offered on the mortal remains. Later, Manipur Rifles personnel also paid gun salutes in honoring Rishikumar.
After the ceremony, the mortal remains were taken to his birth place for performance of last rites.
Minister K Govindas and Heikham Dingo; MLAs Khongbantabam Ibomcha and Surjakumar Okram; high ranking officers and family members of the deceased took part in the ceremony.
