Members of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) paid a rich floral tribute to late a senior journalist and member of the union, Satyajit Usham, on Monday at Manipur Press Club in presence of his family, who passed away on Sunday after battling with an illness.
Later, a condolence meeting was convened by AMWJU and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) at Thangjing Hall of Manipur Press Club and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul, stated a release.
Peoples’ Chronicle’ Editor Sagolshem Imo said that Satyajit had a good soul, and his departure has left a vacuum in their newspaper, it state.
President of the EGM, Khogendro Khomdram recounted Satyajit’s discipline and dedication to his work. Any journalist colleague or management never complained anything against Satyajit in over 20 years of his service at various newspapers. His demise is a great loss for the journalist society, it added.
AMWJU President Bijoy Kakchingtabam also remembered Satyajit as a well-mannered and soft-spoken journalist who always worked with dedication, it stated.
Satyajit, 50, from Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai is survived by his wife and two sons.
After completing his Master’s degree in English from Delhi University, Satyajit first joined ‘Yaikairol’ daily newspaper and continued to pursue the profession, working at various newspapers, including ‘Sangai Express’, ‘Huiyen Lanpao’ (as Editor of the English Edition), and as a senior sub-editor at ‘Peoples’ Chronicle’. He received the Best Editor Award at the Manipur State Journalist Awards in 2013, it mentioned.
