The All India Hind Kranti Party has appealed to the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, K Rammohan Naidu, to review the current airfare policy for airlines operating in the Imphal sector.
The party has raised concerns over the escalating financial burden on travelers, especially students and patients, who are left with no alternative but to rely on air travel amid the ongoing unrest in Manipur.
In a letter addressed to the minister, national president Kamlesh Tripathi and Manipur State Unit president M Dhanabir emphasised the critical situation arising from the ethnic conflict between the Meitei community and the Kuki Zo tribe, which has effectively rendered the state’s roadways unsafe.
It mentioned that the national highways such as NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam-Silchar) and NH-29 (Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati) have become impassable due to the conflict, forcing residents to rely solely on air travel for their essential movement.
With rising airfare rates, the party has urged the ministry to consider offering concessional fares for residents of Manipur, particularly the Meitei community, who have been most affected by the travel restrictions.
