As many as 15 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who had been living in relief camps, were sent off for job placement at Barbeque Nation in Kolkata by the Manipur government on Thursday, after the completion of hospitality training under Hunar Se Rozgar Scheme.
Marking the beginning of their employment journey, a send-off ceremony was held at Bir Tikendrajit Airport in Imphal where chief secretary Vineet Joshi and Commissioner (Home) Ashok Kumar along with other government officials from tourism department officially sent off the 15 selected candidates, urging unemployed youth to participate in the training programmes offered across all districts, which guarantee job placements.
The presence of the state’s top official at the airport today reflects the government’s commitment to addressing unemployment and providing sustainable livelihoods for IDPs as a key focus area, stated a release signed by staff officer to the chief secretary Mercina R Panmei.
The first batch of hospitality training under Hunar Se Rozgar Scheme sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism has been successfully completed, with 168 candidates placed in jobs across the country, it stated.
Among the 15 selected candidates, five are from Kangpokpi, four from Churachandpur, and six from Bishnupur, it mentioned. Over the coming months, 2,000 candidates will be placed in various corporate companies following two months of training, with trainings already in progress across all districts, it added.
“Since the government sector cannot accommodate everyone, we must diversify into other sectors to address the state’s unemployment challenges,” it said. The chief secretary encourages the unemployed youth residing in relief camps to participate in the training programs and secure guaranteed employment upon completing the two-month course, it added.
It further stated that training centres have been established across all districts, and applications are open to both IDPs and non-IDPs, recognizing the state’s high unemployment rate. This achievement marks a significant milestone in skill development, demonstrating the success of guaranteed job placements, it mentioned.
With the hospitality sector providing numerous employment opportunities in the country, the state government aims to explore new avenues for expanding job prospects beyond the food and beverage industry. By diversifying into areas such as travel and tourism, event management, wellness services, and accommodation, the government aims to create a broader range of career opportunities in the state, it added.
