Questioning whether the justification of killing as a sole means to an end should be considered politics, Chief Minister N Biren on Wednesday urged the people to ensure that a Congress government never returns in the state.
Biren was speaking as chief guest at the flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate of Khangabok assembly constituency, Khudrakpam Menjor Mangang. He said the people have got a taste of what it is like under the BJP government for a short period of five years compared to 30 years under the Congress.
Those days when sounding of alarms begin after nightfall and finding people who went out from homes with cash later as dead, are no more, he said. The people can finally have a peaceful night’s rest, and they no longer have to spend the night at sheds, bearing all the mosquitoes, he added.
All these changes happened with the arrival of the BJP government, and people appreciate BJP more and long for its return after witnessing these changes, he said.
During the 30 years of its rule, the Congress government never built a hajj house for minority Muslims or bought any land for the construction, he alleged. “Today, with approval from the Centre, a foundation stone has been laid to construct a Rs 10 crore hajj house for the Muslim brethren,” he said. At Lilong, a women’s market has already been inaugurated, he added.
During the Congress rule, only 6 of 100 houses received drinking water while 64 of 100 houses now have access to drinking water under the far-sighted vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The target is to make 100 of 100 houses have access to drinking water. The people must continue supporting the BJP government,” he added.
“Continue supporting me and let me stay in power. I will not make you spend a single rupee for medical treatment, and the poor will no longer need to shed tears because they cannot have access to health facilities,” he said.
Under the BJP government, two bridges have been built and opened to the public at the Imphal- Jiribam highway which was left abandoned during the Congress rule, he added.
PM Modi is highly affectionate towards the people of Manipur, he further said. With his far-sighted vision, different kinds of schemes including those meant for uplifting of women sections have been launched, he added. “India is now a superpower. More than 130 crore people have been vaccinated and a record is made with such achievement,” he said.
Expressing that he targets an absolute majority of the BJP, he said that he himself is participating in the intensive campaign that is being carried out at most assembly constituencies. At 13 assembly constituencies, work is being taken up alongside the ticket aspirants to ensure that the BJP candidates win, he said.
"Although there is a Congress MLA in Khangabok assembly constituency, the large number of people attending the programme today proves that BJP candidate Kh Menjor Mangang will emerge victorious," he further said.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi alleged that Congress party is indulging in spreading lies to get votes. The Congress should be held responsible for the unemployment of so many youths in the state, she said. PM Modi is giving a strong focus in providing a suitable form of employment to the youths, she added
BJP candidate Khundrakpam Menjor Mangang said that he started out as a teacher in a private school. He chose to contest the election with the plan to make Khangabok assembly constituency developed and peaceful, he added.
The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba; Manipur Election in charge Ashok Shinghal; Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency MLA Paonam Brojen. A large number of people from 47 polling stations of Khangabok assembly constituency also attended the event.
