As many as 20 members of the Block Congress Committee Chingai assembly constituency, including its former president, executive members as well as former Indian National Congress (INC) candidate, chief agent and deputy chief agent of Chingai assembly constituency resigned from Congress and joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.
Speaking at their reception held at the state BJP office located at Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal, Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi said that the slogan of ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ has been giving an impact in the state in the form of ‘Congress Mukt Manipur’.
She said that since India’s independence, the Congress government had been keeping a stronghold in Manipur. However, the BJP-led government has been bringing more progress and development in the state in the last four-and-half-years when compared with what the Congress government had achieved, she added.

The BJP in the state achieved in bringing better road connectivity, she said, citing the Bir Tikendrajit Flyover Bridge as an example. With the coming of the BJP-led government in the state, the law and order situation has been becoming better and the people from both the hills and valleys are able to witness development in road connectivity etc., said Sharda.
Many politicians, including members of different political parties are continuing to join BJP after seeing the works being undertaken by the party in the state, she added.
In the coming state assembly election, the BJP government will stay in power in the state, she further said, adding the people of Chingai should support and elect BJP candidates in order to take part in governing the state, she added.
Former president, Block Congress Committee, Chingai, Israel Zimik said that after noticing the developments made by the Biren led government irrespective of hills and valleys in Manipur, they decided to join BJP.
He assured the people of Chingai assembly constituency will support BJP intending candidate of Chingai assembly constituency Ningam Chamroy for the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
