Waris Death Case: Three Sajiwa jail staffs suspended

​At least three jail staffs, including an assistant jailor of Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, have been suspended in connection with the custodial death of Washima death case accused Md Shiekh Waris who allegedly hung himself inside the toilet of sector number 7, room number 3 of the jail at about 4 am on February 12.

P Doungel, Additional Director General of Police (Prison) Manipur, suspended the three staffs on February 13, police sources said.

The three jail staffs who were suspended were Arambam Romesh, assistant jailor, Manipur  Central Jail, Sajiwa, Md Hamijuddin, and KTikus TKL, both were wardens of district jail, Chandel, but now attached to Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa, the sources said.

Disciplinary actions were also contemplated against the three suspended staffs, the sources said, adding that they cannot leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission of the Superintendent, Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.

Further, the suspension order stated that the suspended staffs would be entitled to subsistence allowance as admissible under rules during the period of suspension and they should sign the attendance register during the office hours as token of their presence which was maintained by the superintendent, Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.
