Manipur Forest Minister Th Shyamkumar informed that the government has taken up steps to evict encroachments from reserved forest areas of the state. The forest department has already sought directives from the High Court of Manipur in this regard, he said.
The minister expressed hope that the public will extend support in larger interest of the state. He also appealed to the encroachers to extend cooperation.
He made the statement during the releasing of a wall calendar of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change held at the New Secretariat on Thursday.
The minister pointed out that climate change is a global phenomenon and its impact has already reached the state. He assured to take up various steps to protect the environment.
He further said that the department concerned has taken up many initiative regarding conservation and protection of mother earth. The photograph used in the calendar that was released today displays all the activities that had been taken up so far by the department.
The department will continue to extend relentless efforts in future as well, he added while appealing to the people of the state to give support and cooperation in maintaining the ecosystem of the state. Collective effort from all walks of life is highly needed to protect environment successfully, he asserted.
