United Committee Manipur appeals for peace and harmony among people

The district magistrate of Tengnoupal had imposed curfew in and around the two villages just after the clash.

In view of the clash that broke out between villagers of Aimol Khunyai and Aimol Chingnunghut in Tengnoupal district, Manipur on Saturday, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Sunday appealed to the villagers to maintain peace and harmony among the people.

A clash broke out between villagers of Aimol Khunyai and Aimol Chingnunghut over land dispute on Saturday around 4:45 pm. The clash claimed the life of one person and more than 20 others sustained injuries.

To prevent further occurrence of any untoward incident, the district magistrate of Tengnoupal had imposed curfew in and around the two villages just after the clash.

A release issued by IPR secretary, UCM, BM Yaima said that such a crisis resulting in loss of life and injuries of many people is unfortunate.

Appealing to the people of the state to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future, it drew attention of the state government to look into Saturday’s incident very seriously and take up necessary measures for restoring peace and harmony.

“Clashes between two villages, two communities, neighbours over land is getting very common like an illness,” it contended and stressed that it is time for the government to settle all land disputes by taking up land survey and demarcation processes under a special policy to prevent such clashes in the future.

While saying that two neighbouring villages always help each other in the time of need in the old days, it expressed apprehension that such clashes might have also been result of various influences from outsiders.
