Two BSF test positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram

With this update, Mizoram reported 164 cases of COVID-19 since the State had reported the first case of the disease on March 24.

Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday in Mizoram. The two jawans are posted in Lunglei district.

According to the Health department, the samples of the two BSF personnel were tested for COVID-19 at Lunglei hospital with the help of Truenat machine.

With this update, Mizoram reported 164 cases of COVID-19 since the State had reported the first case of the disease on March 24.

According to the source, the two BSF personnel were under quarantine at a BSF camp in Vanhne near Lunglei town since their arrival in Mizoram.

Meanwhile, due to the steady rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the State, the Mizoram government has enhanced its measures to control the disease spread.

Interestingly, the Mizoram government had postponed the opening of schools due to the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the State.

Earlier, the Mizoram government announced to open schools from July 15 for the academic session of 2020-2021.

The fresh guidelines on COVID-19 related lockdown are also being enforced since July 1.
The current phase of lockdown is till July 31, 2020.

 Though the new guidelines of COVID-19 lockdown of the Mizoram government said that “religious congregations and other large social gatherings will continue to be prohibited” in the State, morning church service with a maximum number of 50 people will be allowed with immediate effect. The new guidelines also allow anniversary observations, political and other social events with a maximum number of attendees of 50 people.

However, educational and training institutions, entertainment parks, picnic spots, theatres, gymnasiums and other similar places for entertainment will continue to be prohibited till July 31.

The new guidelines then said that beauty parlours, salons and spas will be opened with prior appointment of customers to ensure social distancing.

 According to the government order, the partial lockdown became necessary so as to address the economic issues and the hardship faced by the people down prolonged lockdown. The guidelines were made in such a measure that they do not compromise the health safety of the people, the order added.
