Tribal student bodies urge government to help private schools pay teachers' salaries

The student bodies also demanded installation of COVID-19 testing laboratories in all the hill district headquarters for facilitating faster and extensive testing of people quarantined in the centres immediately.

Three tribal student bodies have appealed to the state government to provide assistance to private schools so that they can pay off the salaries of the teachers and at the same time waive off the student’s tuition fees.

The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM), All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students Organisation (KSO), general headquarter said the three bodies supported education minister Thokchom Radheshyam’s appeal to private school authorities of the state not to charge tuition fee from students during the lockdown period.

However, the student bodies are of the opinion that the minister's appeal to private school authorities to provide monthly salary to its teachers would put the private schools in financial difficulty or pressure, said the release.

The student bodies also demanded installation of COVID-19 testing laboratories in all the hill district headquarters for facilitating faster and extensive testing of people quarantined in the centres immediately.

A released stated that an emergency joint meeting of the three tribal students bodies on Wednesday discussed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the hill districts. The meeting deliberated the need for isolation wards in all the district hospitals where symptomatic or highly suspected persons can be cared for.
