Government school teachers of Tamenglong and Noney districts have threatened to boycott the ensuing board examinations if the authorities failed to pay heed to the demand of immediate rectification of pay anomaly in ROP 2019.

Teachers from Tamenglong and Noney district held sit-in protest at the Zonal Office Tamenglong in protest against the revised of pay 2019 on Thursday.

The protesters held placards and banner with slogans such as, “Don’t degrade teachers’ pay to upgrade education, no rectification no work, rectify 6th pay ROP to get right 7th ROP, etc”.

Speaking on the sideline of the protest, Tamenglong District Teachers’ Association member Remgong Riamei said if the government did not pay heed to the demand, teachers from Tamenglong and Noney district will launch intense protest and will not take part in the class X- XII board exams.

Meanwhile, Tamenglong District Teachers’ Association president Tigaimei Gangmei said that after the day-long sit-in protest at the zonal education office Tamenglong, a memorandum was submitted to the chief minister of Manipur through the deputy commissioner Tamenglong, requesting immediate rectification of pay anomaly.

A copy of memorandum was also made available to the media.

The memo stated that the pay anomaly for teachers of different grades reflected in the ROP 2019 issued by the finance department section on July 7, 2019 is a willful discrimination and direct insult to the teachers community.

The downgraded pay fixation in the ROP 2019 is unacceptable as it is unethical and a target to distort the image of the teaching profession, the memo stated.

The memorandum was signed by Tamenglong District Teachers’ Association president Tigaimei Gangmei and its secretary Sebastian Gailinlung.
