Tamenglong civil body demands swift action to fill vacant seat of MLA
The Tamenglong District Welfare Association appealed the Manipur High Court to speed up the trial process and help lessen the pains and helplessness of the people of Tamenglong.
The Tamenglong District Welfare Association has appealed to the state government to take a decisive action to either revoke the resignation of former MLA Samuel Jendai or to conduct the by-election at the earliest.
Association president RK Ajin said in a release that the people of Tamenglong are in need of a good leader who can render help to the people in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The people need a leader for the welfare and benefit of the people and to fill the long vacuum left behind by the MLA, it said.
It also appealed to the Manipur High Court to speed up the trial process and help lessen the pains and helplessness of the people of Tamenglong.
“The elected leader, MLA of 53 ST Tamenglong constituency has vacated his MLA seat for so long and the people have to suffer the consequences. The district is left leaderless, in a state of vacuum with no one to voice the people’s cry after the resignation of its former MLA,” it stated.
The association said that Tamenglong district is one of the most backward districts in the state and the people have no representative and no one to rely on. As such, the people is in dire need of an elected leader, the release added.
It also pointed out that the hill areas are also in the crux of change which may bring about a political and geographical change with the looming delimitation of the state.
The Tamenglong District Welfare Association is an apex body of Tamenglong, founded in 2004.
