Yongchak should be planted along with other crops as the plant can absorb atmospheric nitrogen and convert it into fertiliser that can be available to other crops, said Union minister RK Ranjan Singh.
The demand for Yongchak or tree bean is growing but its supply is short and the yield is decreasing because of the gradual disappearing of the locally grown tree in recent years. Hence, there is an urgent need for its conservation through community participation.
The workshop will have experts in the field for discussion on issues facing Yongchak cultivators. The last date of registration is on or before March 13, 2022, ICAR said in a release signed by its joint director L Megachandra Singh.
Stakeholders interested in conservation of yongchak from Manipur may contact AIMS director, Atom Sunil Singh (+91 7011990801/ aimsmanipur96@gmail.com) for registration and taking part in the seminar.
