Sitting Member of District Council (MDC) of Sohryngkham Pyniaid Sing Syiem won the Mawryngkneng seat by defeating his closest rival, Highlander Kharmalki of the Congress by a margin of 1,816.
Of the 13, five candidates each will be contesting from Mawryngkneng and Rajabala constituencies while three from the Mawphlang constituency.
The by-elections in Meghalaya is scheduled for October 30.
The by-elections were necessitated following the deaths of three sitting legislators - David A Nongrum from Mawryngkneng constituency, SK Sunn from Mawphlang constituency and Dr Azad Zaman from Rajabala constituency.
