The fresh border tension between Assam and Mizoram prompted both chief ministers of the two states – Assam’s Himanta Biswa Sarma and Mizoram’s Zoramthanga – to seek the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Sarma, who was elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party on Sunday, succeeds Sarbananda Sonowal as the 15th Chief Minister of the state.
The number of recovered cases in the state as of Tuesday was 2,02,468.
The two patients succumbed to their critical infections on Thursday morning at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on Twitter.
While one patient passed away at the Tezpur Medical College, the other four succumbed to their critical infections at the COVID ICU of the Gauhati Medical and Hospital (GMCH).
Meanwhile, 152 more patients have been discharged from different hospitals on Wednesday.
On Thursday, as many as 97 new cases were reported from different parts of the state, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
As many as 25 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday after they tested negative for COVID-19.
